Collaboration Overview
Work together with your team on the same ShapeBox scene in real time — simultaneous editing, live cursors, and change history.
Collaboration Overview
ShapeBox supports real-time multiplayer editing — multiple people can work on the same scene simultaneously, see each other's changes instantly, and communicate without leaving the editor.
Collaboration is available on Team and Enterprise plans.
How it works
When two or more people have the same project open:
- Each collaborator is shown as a coloured cursor and avatar in the Viewport.
- Object selections are highlighted in each collaborator's colour — you can see what everyone is working on at a glance.
- Changes sync instantly across all sessions. There is no "save and refresh" step.
- The Activity Feed (bottom of the editor) logs every action in real time: who added what, moved what, changed what.
Inviting collaborators
- Open the project in the editor.
- Click Share in the toolbar (or the people icon).
- Enter the email addresses of your collaborators.
- Choose a permission level for each person:
- Editor — can view and make changes.
- Viewer — can view the scene but cannot make changes.
- Click Send Invites.
Invitees receive an email with a direct link. They must have a ShapeBox account to join — if they do not have one, the invitation email includes a sign-up link.
Seat limits: Each invited Editor counts as one seat against your Team plan. Viewers are unlimited on all plans.
In-editor collaboration tools
Live cursors
Every collaborator's cursor position and current selection are visible to all others in real time. Hover over an avatar in the toolbar to highlight that person's current selection in the Viewport.
Built-in chat
Press C or click the Chat icon in the toolbar to open the in-editor chat panel. Messages are visible only to collaborators currently in the session — they are not stored permanently.
Object locking
To prevent colleagues from accidentally editing an object you are working on:
- Right-click the object in the Viewport or Outliner.
- Select Lock for me — only you can edit it until you unlock it.
Locked objects appear with a lock badge in the Outliner and cannot be selected by others.
Activity Feed
The Activity Feed at the bottom of the editor shows a live log of:
- Objects added, deleted, or renamed.
- Property changes (transform, materials, etc.).
- Assets uploaded or replaced.
- Who performed each action and when.
Conflict resolution
If two collaborators edit the same property at the exact same time, ShapeBox uses a last-write-wins approach — the most recently received change takes effect. The affected user sees the property snap to the incoming value.
To avoid conflicts on critical objects, use Object Locking.
Offline editing
If your internet connection drops while editing:
- The editor continues to function locally.
- Changes are queued and synced automatically when the connection is restored.
- A banner indicates the offline state and the sync status.
If another collaborator made conflicting changes while you were offline, those changes take priority on reconnect.
